Pros and cons of Swimming Pool Heaters

The swimming pool heaters are an essential part of every modern swimming pool. They are used in both public and private swimming pools. They are mostly used during the colder days of the year or just after the end of summer. What they do is simply turning the electricity into heat which warms up the water.

There are different models for every type and size, so there is always a heater available for your pool. Even if you own a large public swimming pool, you could heat up your clients with a decent heater. Of course the bigger pool you have, the more electricity you will spend.

However, there are three main types of pool heaters:
•    Electric heater
•    Gas heater
•    Solar heater

They all have advantages and disadvantages. We will cover all of them so you can choose the best option for you.

Electric heater

This is the most popular option out there and there is a reason for that. Compared to solar heaters, this one is quite cheap. The prices vary from 500$ to 1000$ and they mostly depend on the size of your pool. When turned on, it requires less energy to work than the gas heater, no matter they are more expensive.

In the long-term, the electric heaters consume a small amount of energy. For instance, if the gas heater requires 1000$ to work for one year, the electric heater would cost you 500$. The gas heaters require a lot of propane, which is also bad for nature. They create carbon emissions in the air which could also create a bad smell around the pool.

The electric heater as explained at The Pool Support,  is less efficient in energy. However, during the winter or the autumn when the sun shines rarely, the solar-powered heater is not producing enough energy. So, when you put the cards on the table, the electric heater seems like the best choice.

Solar-powered heater

The solar heaters are more durable than the other two, but keep in mind that they are harder to use. Before entering the service you have to pass through the long installation process which is quite annoying. But if you care a lot for the environment, you would rather choose this option.

Make sure that nothing covers the solar panels so you can use it as much as possible. If you are living in the temperate zone or in the tropics, a solar heater should be enough. But if there are buildings and trees around that are blocking the sun rays, then this option is probably not for you.

Obviously, solar heaters have almost operation cost because they use solar energy. You only have to pay for some repairs if needed. The brighter the sun shines, the hotter water you get. But if the peak time is long enough, the heater should work for a day or even two.

Gas heater

These heaters have one big advantage – they warm up the water so quickly. If you have clients that you have not expected to come, the gas heater would increase the water temperature for minutes. The electric heater takes hours to actually start the warming up process. This reduces the time which the heater is actually running.

But this is probably the only good side of these heaters. If you consider buying one, be prepared to give some extra money for maintenance and repairs. When it comes to operating costs, the things vary from low to high. It depends on the gas costs of the place you are living in.

The gas is usually a cheap resource but in some nature-friendly nations, you might find it difficult to buy cheap gas. This is mostly true during the cold days when the gas prices become higher.

Conclusion

As you have probably expected, the electric heater has the most benefits. This is why it is the most manufactured model on the market. People know the electricity costs which usually don’t change for long so they can sum up their finances.

But still, some people prefer conventional gas heaters because they have been using it their whole lives. As people who care for nature, we are against these heaters, but you are the one who decides what to buy and what not. Have an amazing day and don’t forget to turn on the heater!
